Just in case anyone uses Halfords for new standard BA wiper blades, without knowing the wiper specs, and has to use their online/in-store parts checker.

Their data is wrong

Their parts checker says the BA needs 21" and 18" blades (front), and 21" (rear).

However, 21" is far too long for the rear, it should be 18".

Hope this prevents someone having the long walk back to Halfords that I had, to exchange it ...

S

EDIT: I suddenly thought, is it me/my car that's wrong? I've always had an 18" blade on the rear, and the 21" comes perilously close to scraping the bottom of the high-level brake light, so I assumed the data must be wrong (and having had Euro Car Parts get the ignition leads wrong only yesterday, I'm rather losing faith in commercial online parts databases). What blade size does everyone else have?

It's because your car isn't lowered, means the wiper is travelling too far and hitting the top

Seriously though, I always thought it was 21+18 for the front and 19 on the rear? that#s what I've always used and never had a problem (with the wipers themselves)

As an aside, I tried those flat blade type wipers once (Bosch aero summint) but found the larger block that holds the wiper on just caused lots of turbulent spray right around the eye line when wiping, worked perfectly except right were you needed to see! So went back to the normal old style wiper

I always use the 48cm one from the front!
My F runs with 52cm and 48cm at front, and when i buy new ones for the windshield i simply put the passenger one(48cm) at the back.I use it not more than 10 times to the next front change so.. :D :D

But I'm helping rectify the homeless problem, because people can sleep in my wheel arches :p

Yes, 19" would still work but the 21" was far too long.

Ah, I couldn't do that because I'd walked to the shop without measuring them before I left home, and not taken the old ones with me (because why bother, I mean, it can't be that difficult to get the right wiper blades, can it? Because Halfords have a motherload of vehicle data available and should know...)

I was cleverer with my ignition leads, though, and actually took the old ones along to Euro Car Parts to make damn sure that they weren't going to get it wrong a second time.

They do have a lot of data but they can catch people out.
My l200 is in a switch year, where both new and old shape existed. So because of that the previous owner used the wrong battery... But Halfords does have two battery choices listed for it lol.
I wouldn't be surprised if we have similar issues, especially on '98 323f ba.
I kinda love the red on your new leads lol
