I've just travelled to Ayr 191 miles from Durham and used just over half a tank in the ze fully loaded with suitcases father in law and 2 kids. Struggled to get above 50 due to traffic for probable 75% of the journey and stuck behind tractor for 8 miles so it should be possible.

WOW can't beleive I've left it this long to update my thread!

Going back to Simply Jap weekend - we didnt try and do the whole run on one tank in the end, purely because we had some fun on the way to Simply Jap with the MCUK lot. However, we did do an MPG test on the way down to Gosport and managed to get 36 MPG which I was amazed with really.

Recent update - since JAE she's been garaged until next year, hopefully it'll help keep the rust monkeys away for a while. Although I'm not sure how much she will be out to play next year due to Rebecca and myself expecting a baby in May 2017.......we'll have to wait and see what happens I guess and how tight funds may be :/

Hi Lerch,

congratulations on the pending new arrival! :wav:

Perhaps you will do better than me at finding little 'arrivals' curtail other activities... and also your perspective on particular risk taking activities. Oh, and if you've got your 'other half' on side with your activities you're well in front of me anyway!

I wish you all the best. Once again, congratulations.

Patrick

Thanks man! Appreciate it :thumbright:

We've already got some plans in place to try and get the BA to shows next year but we'll see what happens i guess.

I'm hoping to get a bonus from work in April so I'll be putting a portion of that aside to try and help me attend the shows although it might be in the 6 and not the F until the other half goes back to work :)

But seriously...as long as your plans are flexible, keeping on living is probably one of the most important things to do and one which I keep forgetting. Just no hot laps with the kid in the back (or the front)!!!

Patrick

P.S. And I only have one child. Though my wife reckons she has two, including me.

Update time!

So we've figured our funds out and we're definitely hitting Silverstone track for Japfest woop! Hoping to make Japfest 2 also but with a 7/8 week old baby - this might be slightly more challenging! We should be able to drum up the funds but the logistics may be slightly more difficult.

I've created a small to do list so that I have some goals to aim for Japfest:
- paint and fit new bonnet
- re-fit side skirts
- flock the dash binacle (not essential but would like to)
- remove roof lining and sun roof

Thats about it I think....not much as funds are being used elsewhere now - grown up priorities bah!

2018 show season update time :)

So in 2017 I trailered my car to Silverstone and Donington as it turned out to much cheaper than getting an MOT, TAX and insurance. The trailer place I used has moved to a bigger site which isn't owned by them so the usage policies have changed meaning I have to have the trailer for a weekend and not just 1 day doubling the cost. When I worked it all out it turns out to be only slightly cheaper to MOT, Tax and insure.......so back on the road she goes :D

I've slowly been working through the list try and get the BA back to MOT standard:

-CAT back in with new centre exhaust section - bring welded this week
-drivers side CV boot changed and re-greased
-new bumper springs (stretch the old ones when I hit the gravel at Donny)
-new battery
-oil & filter change with HLA treatment
-freed up the rear brakes - I left the handbrake on while in storage over the winter (what a length)!

Still got a small list to do:
-adjust wiper so it isn't in the middle
-wire up horn
-fit new rear view mirror
-adjust handbrake
-bleed brakes all round
-general checks

Quick question though - I currently have yellow tint film on my headlights.....is this a fail or does it matter whether it affects the beam strength and pattern etc?

Good thing about this is I should be able to bring the BA to more shows this year :) :) :)

Managed to get quite a bit done over the past few nights

-adjust wiper so it isn't in the middle DONE
-wire up horn DONE
-fit new rear view mirror DONE (thanks Smurf :thumbleft:)
-adjust handbrake - tonights job
-bleed brakes all round - will do this after MOT before Silverstone
-general checks - mostly done :)

I did notice a few areas of suspect rust while I was underneath the car last night so they will need some attention at some point. Off to get the MOT done tomorrow at 4pm so here's hoping we do okay :)

Good luck with the MOT.

As for the yellow lenses, in Australia that may or may not be a fail- there are specific conditions for yellow headlamps, one of which is a dominant wavelength of 575-585nm (there are plenty of others). Unfortunately I can't find a definition of "white light".

The Oz also leans heavily on ECE standards (accepting anything that meets them as being acceptable as long as for RHD/keep-left vehicles)... otherwise we wouldn't be able to get all those Euro cars over here :-) .

Interestingly there is I believe a typo in one part of the Oz standard for H4 units that says 757 -585 nm (i.e. near infrared to yellow! 757 should be 575 I'd suggest). Not sure if it's a direct copy from the ECE regs or an Aussie typo! And in other parts of the doc they describe wavelength in Ångstroms which are nm (nanometres) x 10 just to be confusing (that's 5750 -5850 Å).

More work done tonight ready for tomorrow. Rear calipers adjusted so the handbrake now works properly...before you could pull the lever through the roof lol.

Also had another general check and think everything is fine. Charged the battery, put some air in the tyres and reattached the bumper with number plates.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow....thanks for the support ppes :D

Very very happy! Thanks to hugs for sorting me an MOT slot with a friend who let's say "appreciated the car for what it is"

Really excited for Japfest now and the other events I'll be able to come to wooohoooo

What a pile :D

Pitrack, weirdly, my oil fillter cap faces EXACTLY that same way - it annoys the hell out of me!!! I'm considering getting an extra rubber O-ring to fit underneath it!

I was trying to think of a response other than.....does it keep the oil in the engine? Yes....good :)

Got Friday off to prepare for Silverstone the weekend. The list so far consists of:
-good clean and wax
-adjust rear camber
-bleed brakes
-possibly replace rear pads
-oil change

should be good to go then I think :)

So went to Japfest the weekend with 0 hiccups on the road (apart from me being a dinger and draining the battery) so was dead happy with that! Had a bit of trouble out of track where the rear brakes were pretty useless! I knew the pads were on their way out but turns out I was metal to metal on the second session :( managed to get a few nice pics from the day though

Before Japfest, I fitted some Samurai rubber bumper lips to the side skirts. Always thought it looked a little weird with a bit splitter and big gaps on the sides. Mixed reactions from people I've asked and I was slightly dubious but got to say now I love them :)

spent some time working on the rear brakes last night after struggling with them on Sunday. Turns out the pads were down to the metal (didn't think they were that low before) and there was 2 big stones stuck between the disc and the surround....not cool!
Image
Image

So, new pads, good wire brush and clean and some paint to freshen up :) Also drained the whole system of the nasty old brake fluid...plan to replace all with some brand new fresh Motul RBF660 ready for Combe.

Bad luck about the pads. No damage to the discs?
