Someone just posted this on Twitter

https://www.topgear.com/car-news/classic/tour-mazdas-obscure-classic-car-collection#1

It's a Mazda museum in Augsburg!

Fortunately I'm OK with German, so this is now on my bucket list

Great post/link Serena!

Seen quite a few of those models on Australian roads.

In my opinion one 'classic' that is missing, at least from the report, is Mazda's Bongo van.

The Mazda Roadpacer was truly AWFUL in is mismatchedness...an abomination. Read on.

Take a large Aussie luxury sedan- Holden Premier- about 1600 kg. Strip the large 6-cyl or V8 out- at least 3.3l I6, likely the 4.2 or 5l V8- and replace it with rotary engine. Now you really need lots of torque at low revs to move 1.5 tonnes of metal, and the rotary only had 138Nm (i.e. less than my BA) at high revs. Then you bung an auto (suited to low rev torque) behind it...and you end up with a large, poorly built (by Japanese standards) vehicle which goes nowhere fast whilst possessing terrible fuel consumption. If you look at the Wiki article, it says 26l/100km...that's 9mpg for 138Nm of slushbox in 1.6tonnes. Just after the fuel crisis too. The damage done to Mazda's reputation must have been immense.

I've seen this a few times! It does look cool in all fairness - if I'm ever in Germany it would be worth a visit :)

Well, it's about 5 hours from the museum to the Ring, just sayin :D
Apart from that, make sure to step by my house and pick me up on your way there :)
by the way, the actual collection (privately owned) is much larger than what's on display. They have to cycle through the cars on display over time to somehow make them all accessible, so a return visit is always a good idea after some time.

A Mazda museum in Augsburg of all places? First time I've heard of it, but I'm glad I did. Hopefully, I'll have a chance to visit it sooner or later.

That looks awesome. Do you think they would mind if I helped myself to the pristine KLZE out of that 626? :-O
