323Fastback popups Champers 1.6i J reg 1992
Purchased 1999 80000 on clock.
Has until the year 2005 needed nothing doing at all except sort out seat springs drivers side at time of purchase.
This last year now at 138000, replaced two front shocks, CV's, brake discs and shoes.
Exhaust units replaced as normal, cat not changed in my time.
Broke a suspension arm cornering fast and hitting a small hole. Fixed
Replaced driver window winder unit as stuttered.
Rust in sills dealt with, waxoyl.
Rust treatment underside steamed, red oxided, kurusted
Rear roof lining adrift, fixable with d/sided ind tape.

Lovely car and never a problem. Well maintained.
No knocks or scratches.
One rust patch above rear wing.
Then someone pranged me in the front . Front panel and bumper duffed, slight tweak to bonnet lhs corner and insurance say beyond book value...but whats out there doesnt compare !

Now trying to get another as good as, champers awaiting sale or scrapping...
Certainly the BG's seem fine and a joy to own, talking to others.

Gutted to hear it; but all may NOT be lost ....

Look out for Parvez - he was in a simular situation - but managed to buy the car back from the Insurance on the cheap after claiming the book value, and managed to get her back on the road using 2nd hand parts and some nifty negotiations with panel beaters/spray painters (and some help from the Club !!!)

96' BA 153 000 kms. owned her for a year.

broken gearbox mounting bracket. which also broke off the brake fluid hose and no clutch. the mounting bracket actually only had 2 bolts in it, so i blame the previous owner. 1 brake light globe and 1 head light globe. endless alternator belt screeching. keeps coming back. taped cover gasket oil leak but sorted it out properly this weekend. wasnt tied properly, so not a problem. lots of rattling and not so great fuel consumption. otherwise a very reliable car and wouldnt trade it for a ferrari. love my car.

1997 LXI 1.5, 72,000 miles on the clock

So far the only thing that's died on it is the aerial and the clutch (though the clutch was my fault).

Theres a strange clunking noise coming from the bonnet somewhere though, and no garage I've taken it to knows what it is, so I'll probably be adding to this list in the near future ;).

Another thing to watch out for is the Friction Rings on the V6's. Apparently it was an engine design fault in the early V6's, but was corrected in the later models. Approximate cost for fix: NZD$600 - $800. Had some other work done as well - Cambelt, waterpump, idler tensioner, cam cover, front and rear rocker cover gaskets, friction rings, new intake pipe, labour = NZD$1600-1700

I think my little car's done really well..!!

14 1/2 yrs old, 1992 GLXi BG, now has nearly 162,000 miles and I think I've done .... well, an awful lot of those... deffo had less than 100K
Mum bought it Sept 2003, then it was mine in Mar 04.

Dent in wing (mother's fault!) fixed
Lost a wheel trim
Usual cam belt/tyres/brakes/couple of lights/battery/oil/new radiator cap etc etc
£78.13 to fix after broken into / attempted thieving - engine fuse + new ignition bits plus 50 quid for a steering lock then my brother decoded my radio for me :)
Failed an MOT on corroded brakes lines... apparently...hmmm :bs:
£100+ on new braided part of the exhaust at the front :pale:
New ciggy lighter (for mobile phone charging!)

That's it!

Could do with a new clutch coz it squeaks, but doesn't slip or anything
Water pump leaks a bit if it feels like it
Cooling system could probably do with a proper flushing out/cleaning
Little bits of rust here and there
Paint laquer on bonnet and other patches coming off (gives character!)
Electric windows stick sometimes, must get some of that silicon whatever stuff
Rear washer pump stopped working a few months back
Funny clicking noise where drivers seatbelt clicks in when going over bumps
LCD display on radio all green and can't see the numbers anymore
Internal clock.... still works!

Never broken down, starts first time whatever, most excellent car in the world!!

Only had mine for under a month and so far I've found lots of cosmetic body work and a bit of Sub-structure straightening to do but that was damaged before I got it :D There's a few oily patches on the engine that I haven't diagnosed yet and the MOT's due in September. I'm currently working through an MOT guide fixing things as I find then and so far I've only changed a few bulbs and a wiper blade (that was in the boot when I got the car LOL).

1990 BG 1.8 GT

217k

Had since April, and I've only had to change front brake shoes and offside front shock.
Very little work done on car before by previous owners as well.
Apart from that, I've got water leaking in but don't know where from.

1998 BA 1.5 GXi

88k

Had for over a year -
New brake discs and pads
Exhaust - everything except cat replaced
New Oil Sump
Minor Rust taken care of

Currently AC needs a regas and the AC clutch is noisy as hell, so im just gonna leave that switched off until next summer ;)
Also have a new CAT waiting to be fitted, old one rattles a bit but still just passes emissions :thumbright:

Other than that, thorough maintenance, and modification where possible :)

'96 1.8 BA
Had it for 7 months.
It's got 125K on it (had about 115 when I got it - I do about 1.3K a month)

Radiator was shagged when I got it and the thermostat was buggered (probably deliberately to compensate for the state of the radiator)
Coolant bypass valve failed.
Bit of rust on the passenger door and the leading edge of the bonnet that needs fixed.

That's it so far.

I received an eMail a whileback with a spread-sheet listing all hi-jackings over the last 5 years or so ... There was one Astina listed; Mine !!! Luckily I have a tracking system, so they found her 1/2 an hour later !!! :D

by the way : on that spreadsheet, they listed thousands of Toyota's and Golfs ...

Nothing else (so far!), but major service incl. timing belt change this Thurs - hopefully my mechanic won't find anything else.

93 1.8 DOHC 120 k miles had it a year.

Regular maintenance, wherupon I discovered one slightly cracked break hose, replaced the pair as a precaution.

93 for the win!

I got my mazda 323f 92 model 1.6 in 2000, had it eight years, got it with 15000 miles on it, ended with about 170.000 miles..

almost Every service, resulted in new ball joints (only one at a time normally)
new exhaust
several bulbs (took quick fit, 5 attempts and 40 minutes to change a reverse light once, prat was changing the brake light instead :) )
Power steering pipe
tyres of course

Accident damage :) (not my fault)

i cant think of anything really serious, that was wrong with it..excellent motor
